The music
For those who love music from Latin America, the Duo Maria y Franco has a special treat for the ears. On the one hand, the repertoire includes the typical "musica popular" from Argentina (songs by Atahualpa Yupanqui, Mercedes Sosa, Sixto Palavesino, Astor Piazolla, Carlos Gardel, etc.). On the other hand, they also present new songs: original compositions with traditional essence and contemporary music influences. Instrumental and sung pieces alternate. The styles range from tango and milonga to chacarera, zamba, gato, escondido, huayno and carnavalito to vals and vidala, the "mother" of several styles of Argentine folk music.
The duo
Maria Holl, violinist from Switzerland, and Franco Garzón, composer and guitarist from Salta, Argentina, form the duo Maria y Franco. Both have been artistically involved in various ensembles for years and teach their respective instruments. As a duo they combine the two cultures and bring Argentinean music authentically and freshly to the Swiss stages. They have also performed in Argentina, Brazil, Germany, France, Italy, Morocco, Guatemala and Mexico.
