Journey of the fire dance around the world

The fire dance has its origin in ritual dances. The poi (chains with fireball) come from the Maoris (New Zealand), fire pole dances are known from Thailand and India and were also practiced in different African cultures. This original form was taken up by young western travellers; some "infected" fire dancers developed it into professional shows in their own homeland.
